Cloves are the unopened flower bud of an Evergreen Tree. The tree is native to Madagascar, India, Malaysia, Brazil, Sumatra, the Philippines, Jamaica and other tropical regions. Cloves are harvested when 1.5 - 2 cm long, they resemble small nails with a tapered stem. When fresh, they are pink, dried, they turn to a rust-brown colour.
