Also Known As:
TONGUES OF FIRE, FIRE TONGUE
Product Info: Tongues of Fire beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) are related to Kidney Beans. These beans are deep umber, almost burgundy with lighter mocha colored markings which resemble fire flames. Color gently fades during soaking. Tongues of Fire are about 1/2 inch long. They have a fresh flavor and mild texture. Suggested Use: Tongues of Fire have a mild flavor that absorbs other flavors well. Combine them with savory spices and aromatic herbs. Use in casseroles or dishes which highlight beans such as cassoulets, vegetable stews, soups and cold bean salads. Ingredients: Tongues of Fire beans. Basic Preparations: Soak overnight. Rinse and place in a large pot and cover with fresh water. Bring water to a boil for 3 minutes, reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 60 minutes until tender. One cup dry yields 2-1/2 cups cooked. |
