Also Known As:
WHEAT BERRIES
Product Info: Wheat (Teiticum Aestivum) is a well known, nutritious grain. There's evidence of Wheat use as far back as the Neolithic, over 11,000 years ago. It is believed to have helped support large numbers of people, allowing for the rise of urban centers. While Wheat Flour is commonplace, Wheat Berries are not as well known. Wheat Berries are husked, whole Wheat Kernels surrounded by the Bran of the Wheat. This form of soft White Wheat Berries has a higher carbohydrate content than hard Red Wheat, but less Gluten, making it better to cook with and sprout. Soft White Wheat Berries come from Spring Wheat in the South and Midwest areas of the U.S. There are many hybrids of Wheat such as Spelt, Kermit, and Bulghur. Suggested Use: Use instead of Rice as a dinner grain or add to salads, stuffings, soups and casseroles. Soft White Wheat Berries can be cooked with raisins and milk for a nutritious breakfast. Ingredients: Wheat berries. (Contains wheat). Basic Preparations: SOAK overnight. Drain, cover with 3-1/2 cups liquid and bring to boil. Reduce heat, simmer 50 MINUTES. DRAIN IF Needed, FLUFF WITH A FORK. For nuttier Flavor, TOAST before SOAKING. One CUP Dry YIELDS 3 CUPS COOKED. |
